Muzziepunk: Where Tradition Meets Counter-Culture
Muzziepunk: Where Tradition Meets Counter-Culture
An ongoing fashion design and styling project merging the seemingly contradictory worlds of the traditionalist Muslim communities I grew up in with the anti-establishment punk subculture I admired, made for the alternative Muslims who struggle to fit in both worlds yet stand by their existence as being inherently punk
Further inspired by my personal collection of fabrics often associated with punk fashion: plaids, distressed knits, denim, and leathers, to name a few
Muzziepunk Moodboard
Made using deadstock wool plaids, denim from unwanted jeans, and a distressed knit fabric found at a garage sale
Look #1
Sketches below were made with Procreate on the iPad, with the third one being the fan favorite
The shirt and hat were successfully made with a few modifications, such as changing the fabric for the hat due to a wool buffalo plaid not being available nearby, and adjusting the row of long spikes to a combination of short and long spikes around the center of the hat
As for the skirt, on the other hand, it is incomplete. Below are process images of the skirt with notes and research.
This project is currently a work in progress.
