“Nothing living in nature lasts forever, thus we must enjoy the beauty in their natural death and decay”

Dying Beauties

A knit drapery project exploring unconventional ways of achieving and admiring beauty using unattractive fabrics, “ugly” sources of inspiration, and unpolished, exposed seams, further reflecting the current state of our planet through climate change mixed with cyclical organic processes

For this project, I wanted to specifically make a top that I knew I would like enough to wear, even if the fabrics and techniques used were deemed “ugly” to my personal liking or others. I focused on features such as exposed seams, lettuce hems on even the collar and armholes, and a flared skirt-like drape below a fitted bust.

Process

Initially, I wanted to take the top further by adding flared sleeves, a high neckline, and a gathered knit band across the chest. However, due to time constraints, I instead focused on creating a sleeveless top with lettuce hems all over for a more intriguing, organic look.
